Shadows of Amn > Upper ReachesUpper Reaches (AR0202)*
If you want to see the traps and hidden doors on this level, hover your mouse over SHOW TRAPS AND HIDDEN DOORS. Locked Door to the Inner ChambersNear this door you'll fight an Otyugh, watch it as when it hits you it Slows you. The locked door can be opened only if you have Gaal's key so be really careful as killing Gaal would mean that you don't get his key, you can only get it if you agree to work for the cult. Kill an Otyugh. Once you obtain the key from Gaal an enter here, disarm the trap near the entrance to move on, you'll end up in the eerie place with a sarcophagus in the center. DISARM THE TRAP: 2750 exp. The HallNarrow corridors leading to the hall are full of Shadows that will attack you on sight. Once you approach the bridge, be careful - there is a trap. Once you disarm this trap a bunch of Ettercups will assault you from their hiding places. Kill the Shadows. There are two more Shadows on the bridge. Kill the Shadows. Gas ChamberThis room is quite nasty. If you click on the wheel in the center, the doors to this room are immediately locked, two Vampiric Mists are summoned and the room itself is getting filled with gas. Lockpick the door to get out of this death trap. Lockpick the door and kill the Vapmiric
Mists. Entrance to the Cult Domain In this little room you will see Gaal, the High Priest of
the One God, with some Elite Guards guarding the entrance to the domain of the
cult of the Unseeing Eye. As soon as you approach, Gaal will initiate a
conversation with you. He will reveal some information about the Unseeing Eye,
this "God" is apparently a Beholder who strayed too far up to the surface in
search of something. If you decide to play along and show your interest in
joining the cult, Gaal will tell you that you'll either have to remove your eyes
(yeah, right) or do a special mission for the cult. This special mission
involves retrieving an artifact, part of a rod that can be found on a holy
altar, that the Unseeing Eye has been searching for. If you accept this mission,
Gaal will give you the key to open the
locked door to
the Inner Chambers. Once you find the rod you are to bring it to Gaal. If you accept the mission from Gaal, he'll
give you the key. If you return here after defeating the Unseeing Eye in its Lair (and you should return here in order to get more treasure =), you will have a big fight on your hands. Gaal, together with his guards, will attack your party. Defeat this "welcome party". Sarcophagus Well, actually before you move on to the sarcophagus you
are met by the eyeless man by the name Sassar. Sassar was once a high priest of
the "One God" and once he figured out what the Unseeing Eye is up to he ran away
and left the cult. His buddies, Garuk and Zaelas, have done the same. Apparently
they've tried to stop the beholder, but without their eyes and now without the
blessing of their former God, they couldn't do anything. When you slide the lid of that sarcophagus a nasty Shade Lich will appear and attack your party. Apply the standard Lich fighting techniques to defeat him. Once the Lich is dead check out the sarcophagus to find the Golden Arms and Legs there, necessary to revive Kangaxx. Kill the Shade Lich and see what's inside the
sarcophagus. Sassar will tell you what it is that the beholder is after, an ancient artifact of such a terrible power that the Gods themselves decided that it shouldn't be used again. He tells you that the beholder has one part of this artifact and that the second half is buried deep below. Sassar then asks you whether you would be willing to go down below to retrieve the second half of the rod in order to use it to destroy the beholder. Once you have obtained the half of the relic, show it to Sassar and he will tell you how to acquire the other half. You must get into the Pit of the Faithless via a secret entrance and acquire the other half of the rod. Sassar also tells you that one of their friends, Tad, is still in the cult. You should approach him and say the pass phrase "The Eye is blind". Sassar warns you not to speak to Gaal, as he will sense that you have the half of the rod and murder you (yeah, right !). After destroying the Unseeing Eye, when you walk by Sassar, he will thank you for doing this task and caution you not to take the Rift Device above the surface. If you do try to take the Rift Device away from this dungeon, the minute you step into the Sewers, your Protagonist will die, apparently with much suffering too. So the best course of action is to return the Device to the Avatar of the long forgotten god Amaunator. Room 6In this room you can find two Sassar's buddies, Zaelas and Garuk, and their two locked chests. You can open those chests and take their contents, they won't mind. Scour the room for treasure (two locked
chests). Another Locked DoorYou end up here after passing by Sassar and the evil sarcophagus in the middle. This area is populated by Shadows and has a trap nearby, so be careful. This locked door can be opened only form the inside, once you appear from the Pit of the Faithless (the Lair of the Unseeing Eye). Kill the shadows and disarm the trap to move
on. Room 1In this room you shall find Gaal after you have talked to him and accepted his mission. If you bring him the half of the Rift Device that the Avatar has given you, your party will be rewarded with experience and then attacked by Gaal, the Unseeing Eye itself and the rest of the cultists. If you give half of the artifact to Gaal, you
will have a fight on your hands. Should you decide not to give the piece of the Rift Device to Gaal, you can pickpocket him for a magic scroll. Check out the rest of the room for treasure. Pickpocket Gaal for a magic scroll and scour
the room for treasure (closet and a locked table). Down to the Pit of the FaithlessHere you will find Tad that Sassar was telling you about. Just say the pass phrase "The Eye is blind" and Ted will help you out by telling you how to get to the Pit of the Faithless, although he warns you to be wary of the creatures down below. Pickpocket Tad for a magic scroll. Room 2This room has one cultist in it and a locked chest with treasure. Scour the room for treasure (locked chest). Room 3There is an Elite Guard near the bottom of the stairs and a cultist inside this room. Scour the room for treasure (locked chest). Room 4In this room you'll find two cultists. Scour the room for treasure (two locked
chests). Room 5Nearby you shall be a witness to the ritual of acceptance into the cult, the wannabe member gets his eyes torn out. If he lives - he is deemed worthy to be accepted into the cult, if he dies, however, he is thrown down into the Pit of the Faithless. Inside the room you'll find two more cultists. Scour the room for treasure (table and a
locked chest).
